Fashion Show Las Vegas, a premier shopping destination located on the Las Vegas Strip, is reinforcing its commitment to public art with the debut of a larger-than-life art light installation, “Global Rainbow,” along with an all-new sculpture garden. The pair of art displays recently were unveiled with a special evening lighting ceremony.
Beaming seven rays of laser light representing the color spectrum — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet — Global Rainbow lit up the city of Las Vegas with its cutting-edge technological and artistic display from the rooftop of Fashion Show.
The May 18 lighting event marked the installation’s first appearance on the West Coast. Created by American artist Yvette Mattern, Global Rainbow has been seen in Berlin, New York City and Toronto, to name a few. The immense outdoor laser installation is viewable to thousands of Las Vegas locals and visitors from dusk to dawn for a limited time.
Illuminating the night sky, Global Rainbow is visible for up to 35 miles and will target multiple trajectories of top landmarks in and around Las Vegas. Signifying the hope of a bright, successful future, full of inspiration and energy, this latest installation helps communicate Fashion Show’s ambition to continue transforming the industry’s view on what retail properties can be.
“Adding visual art such as Global Rainbow and the new sculpture garden to Fashion Show is one way we are innovating and elevating the shopping experience,” said Jim Heilmann, senior general manager of Fashion Show Las Vegas.
“Nationwide, we are seeing that customers appreciate continued integration of entertainment, culture, and arts to their shopping and dining experiences. It creates a relevancy and uniqueness to the customer’s visit, and we are thrilled to be able to work with local partners and one-of-a-kind artists, such as Mattern, to deliver added beauty, meaning and fun here at Fashion Show.”
As part of the installation, photography enthusiasts are encouraged to participate in the accompanying social media contest by posting their best photos of the Global Rainbow for a chance to be featured in The Plaza at Fashion Show.
The Plaza features several LED video displays totaling approximately 10,000 square feet and containing more than 4 million LED pixels. Just snap a shot of Global Rainbow from a public account and include the hashtag #thefutureiscolorful for a chance to be featured on Fashion Show’s social channels and the Las Vegas Strip.
Also during the debut, Fashion Show revealed two iconic pieces it’s added to its rotating collection of art pieces. The outdoor Plaza patio, which has been transformed into a museum-type space of familiar festival artworks, gives shoppers and passersby an opportunity to view awe-inspiring pieces by world-renowned sculpture and street artists.
Created in partnership with art consultancy Building 180 and Life is Beautiful, and sourced specially for The Plaza at Fashion Show, one of the new public art additions includes “Heartfullness,” designed by Katy Boynton. The 12-by-15-foot steel replica depicts a heart that repeatedly has been broken and pieced back together. It is an impactful piece that debuted in 2012 at the annual Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. It since has been seen at the Life is Beautiful festival in Las Vegas, Bottle Rock Napa and many more.
The other new artwork, “InSpire,” also was seen at Burning Man. Created by HYBYCOZO, which stands for Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone, the piece is inspired by the intersection of math, science, technology, geometry, material and light. The artists of HYBYCOZO are Yelena Filipchuk and Serge Beaulieu, and their art piece comprises huge, geometric laser-cut 3D sculptures that are beautiful and recognizable.
Besides the duo of public art displays, Fashion Show has introduced Cube, a fully immersive pop-up photo box exhibition that leads guests indoors. Like a traditional photo booth, but with a modern-day twist, the multidimensional photo experience is available at multiple locations found throughout Fashion Show. Shoppers can have fun with themed backdrops, such as Las Vegas, glitz and glamor, paparazzi runway and head-in-the hole-inspired donuts, to name a few.
